Who We Are

Welcome to the Balmoral Presbyterian Church web site!

Balmoral Presbyterian Church has been located in East Memphis since it was established in 1967 and has been at its Quince Road address since 1972. In those early days, it stood alone in the middle of a bean field, and many visitors, in referring to our building’s architecture, said they wondered why a fire station had a cross in front of it.

We always laughed with them, and then explained that it was supposed to make the statement that what goes on inside a church is more important than what it looks like on the outside. At Balmoral, we believe that God’s grace is a gift freely given. We also believe that because of God’s gift of grace, we are called to ask what we can do in return and then act accordingly.

At Balmoral —
  • We know that we don’t have all the answers.
  • We know that God loves us, and that we are called to love one another.
  • We want to share the good news of Jesus Christ.

Balmoral’s community is East Memphis and Mid-Town; Collierville and Eads; Cordova and Germantown; Shelby County and DeSoto County.  From all these areas and more, our church families travel to Balmoral to be nurtured and to be challenged.

We hope that you will continue your visit to our web site and see how the Holy Spirit is at work through our people, both inside with our worship and education programs and outside with our missions and ministries. And we invite you to come and see Balmoral in person.

Message from our Pastor
I have worked with a number of churches over the years, and I have found the people here at Balmoral to be among the most accepting and least judgmental that I have ever met. They make you feel special because they see you as a blessing.

History
Balmoral was started as a new church development in East Memphis by the Presbytery of Memphis in the summer of 1967, with the Presbytery’s challenge to be a “new thing.” Our first worship service was held in the fall of 1967 and was attended by approximately 70 curious people.
